In Bulgaria, IOM is focusing on responding to the current migration situation in the country, in support of the Bulgarian Government and in cooperation with all other agencies involved.
Context: Under the Project focused on Protecting Children in the context of the Refugee and Migrant Crisis in Europe, IOM Sofia is recruiting legal counselor/s to provide support to migrant children taking into account their specific needs.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
In coordination with IOM colleagues provide legal assistance for migrant children at arrival, transit and destination points to be informed about their rights and the procedures to be followed for child protection.
Provide specialized assistance to recognize the unaccompanied children and their eligible family members within and outside of EU according to the family reunification procedures
Refer interested migrants for further actions related to the voluntary return and reintegration programme.
Assist in coordinating the provision of care to all refugees and migrants in line with IOM standards.
Prepare case reports and coordinate activities with IOM protection and AVR teams.
Undertake duty travels as required.
Perform other duties as required for the successful implementation of the project.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Completed university degree or higher degree from an accredited academic institution in Law with 3 years of relevant work experience in the field.
Good level of computer literacy
Good knowledge of Bulgarian and EU migration related legislation
Previous experience in providing counselling to migrants and/or refugees and/or third country nationals
Awareness of refugees and migrants issues
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, personal commitment, efficiency and flexibility.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and difficult conditions
Fluency in English and Bulgarian is required.
Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment and verification of residency, visa and authorizations by the concerned Government, where applicable.
