Information sessions for migrants in Burgas on the subject “Bulgaria – past and present”
IOM’s Information Centre for Immigrants organized a series of two specialized information sessions for migrants legally residing in Bulgaria on the 23rd and 24th of April in the Cultural Centre “Sea Casino”. The events are part of the project “Training and Counselling of Legal Migrants, Asylum Seekers and Beneficiaries of International Protection”.
During the info sessions, migrants from Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China and Uzbekistan, who have chosen the seaside city of Burgas for their new beginning, listened attentively to presentations on Bulgaria’s current status as a modern European country with rich history, unique culture and beautiful nature.
The migrants were also introduced to the political and institutional system in the country, as well as the administrative body that implements the country’s policy on migration, asylum and integration.
The first two groups of migrants, who completed the Bulgarian language course that IOM organized within the framework of the same project, were also present. They received Level A1 Bulgarian certificates, following the completion of the course. The children’s choir “Trepetlikite” (lit. Aspens) and the children’s song and dance ensemble “Radost” (lit. Joy) also took part in the event, delighting the immigrants with brilliant performances of traditional Bulgarian folk songs and dances.
