IOM Bulgaria distributed hygiene materials to migrants in need
IOM Bulgaria carried out two distributions of hygiene materials this week to migrants who have become extremely vulnerable due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the declaration of the national state of emergency. In Harmanli, IOM distributed masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, antibacterial soap, laundry detergent, shampoo, toothpaste, towels, sanitary pads and other materials of first necessity to migrants living at external addresses. A total of 21 individuals received assistance following an assessment of the needs and degree of vulnerability of the beneficiaries.
The second distribution was carried out in the village of Pomoshtnik, near Stara Zagora, where IOM assisted 11 beneficiaries of international protection. The packages with hygiene materials were brought to their home addresses and all safety measures were strictly followed.
The distribution activities carried out by IOM Bulgaria were coordinated with Association “Mission Wings” and were conducted as part of project “Protection of Vulnerable Migrants and Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration Support” funded by the European Commission’s Directorate General Migration and Home Affairs through the Emergency Measures under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2014-2020.
