IOM organizes a cricket tournament in Sofia

From 18th to 20th of November IOM Bulgaria organized a three-day cricket tournament at stadium “Lokomotiv” in Sofia in partnership with the National Sports Academy.

Although it is one of the oldest sports that are still being actively practiced and is the second most popular sport in the world following football, cricket is still relatively unknown in Bulgaria. The aim of the event was to popularize this unorthodox for Bulgaria sport. The tournament invited 170 participants between 10 and 16 years old – students from 15 school “Adam Mickiewicz” and youths staying at RRC Sofia – Voenna Rampa and familiarized them with the sport’s history, rules and with the basic techniques of passing and batting.

The demonstrative matches that were played were highly contested and filled with many positive emotions, while all the participants showed enviable sport skills and desire to practice cricket in the future.

The event was part of the annual Refugee Month and is being realized within the framework of the project "Increasing the Awareness and Tolerance of the Bulgarian Society and Migrant Communities in Bulgaria" funded by the National programme of Bulgaria under the “Asylum, Migration and Integration” Fund 2014-2020.
