Training on “Gender-based violence among migrants and refugees”

In February, an IOM Bulgaria team organized trainings on “Gender-based violence among migrants and refugees”, as part of the regional project PROTECT, in Ruse, Varna and Burgas. The topics discussed during the trainings included GBV in emergencies, cultural specificities of the countries of origin of migrants and refugees in Bulgaria, LGBTI migrants and GBV, and services available in Bulgaria for migrants and refugees GBV survivors. Representatives from state institutions, NGOs and health mediators working in the field with vulnerable groups participated in the trainings.

Within the framework of the same project, IOM organized a stakeholders’ meeting in Ruse where challenges in the Bulgarian context and possible solutions as regards working with migrants and refugees GBV survivors were discussed.

The project PROTECT - Preventing sexual and gender-based violence against migrants and strengthening support to victims – is funded by the European Union’s DG Justice and Consumers.
