IOM Bulgaria distributed food packages to vulnerable migrants

IOM Bulgaria continues its campaign to support migrants who are in a situation of vulnerability due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This week food packages were distributed to asylum seekers and beneficiaries of international protection, as well as other migrants, living in Harmanli, Svilengrad and the village of Pomoshtnik.

Following an assessment of the needs and levels of vulnerability, carried out together with Foundation “Mission Wings”, food packages with products of basic necessity were distributed, including oil, rice, chickpeas, bulgur, lentils, beans, pasta, marmalade, salt and sugar.

In Harmanli a total of 23 migrants received packages, while in the village of Pomoshtnik IOM assisted 9 persons.  The packages were delivered to their homes, in compliance with all the safety measures related to the pandemic. On the next day, 10 people living in Svilengrad also received assistance.

The distribution activities carried out by IOM Bulgaria were coordinated with Фондация "Мисия Криле" / Mission Wings Foundation and were conducted as part of project “Protection of Vulnerable Migrants and Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration Support” funded by the European Commission’s Directorate General Migration and Home Affairs through the Emergency Measures under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2014-2020.
