IOM celebrated World Refugee Day with two sports events in Sofia
Last week, IOM Bulgaria, with the support of UNHCR Bulgaria, organized two sports events for unaccompanied asylum-seeking minors in Sofia. The children played football and cricket in two separate tournaments.
In the football tournament, participants included three teams from the Safety Zone in RRC Sofia - Voenna Rampa, one team from the Safety Zone in RRC Sofia - Ovcha Kupel, a team composed of IOM staff and a team made up of unaccompanied minors relocated from Greece. After several hotly contested matches, the AFG Boys team won the tournament, defeating the IOM Bulgaria team 3:1.
Three teams from RRC Sofia - Voenna Rampa participated in the cricket event. Under the supervision of players from the Bulgarian National Cricket Team, they played games of high quality and sportsmanship. The final was won by AFG King.
We thank wholeheartedly Ludmil Trenev for the assistance and the awards provided to the players in the cricket tournament. We would also like to thank UNHCR for providing transportation for both sports events.
All activities are realized in the framework of project “Protection of Vulnerable Migrants and Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration Support” funded by the Emergency Measures under the Asylum, Migration, and Integration Fund 2014-2020 with the financial support of the European Union and the budget of the Republic of Bulgaria
